We’ve already given you the lowdown on the many benefits of citric acid, but now explore the preservative for its skincare properties. We find that as an antioxidant enhancer, it can neutralize the damaging effects of skin aging free radicals, and unstable compounds that can accumulate in the body.
Available in a large variety of fruits like lemons, limes, oranges, grapefruits, kiwis, strawberries, apples, pears, cherries and raspberries, and even some vegetables like mushrooms, potatoes, tomatoes, peas and asparagus, we’ve concocted plenty citrus-based beauty DIYs for this summer.
Now, we get into the nooks and crannies of the feet and hands, and use it to for a mani-pedi session to replicate a spa-like experience.
Citric Acid DIY To Exfoliate Your Feet: In a warm water bath, soak your 10 soldiers for 10 minutes. The solution should have 1/4 cup epsom salt and a few drops of an essential oil of your choice. Then, scrub your feet with a pumice stone and dab a cotton pad, immersed in lemon juice on the darkened areas and nails. This process pampers the skin and exfoliates the dead cells. Once the solution dries, massage your feet with a mix of essential oil and carrier oil. You’ll have strong, clean nails in less than an hour, and an even skin tone on the feet.
Citric Acid DIY For Fungus-Free Feet: Lemon juice’s acidic and anti-bacterial properties kill and prevent the growth of fungus. Prepare a soak with warm water, 1tbsp baking powder and the juice of 1 lemon. Submerge your feet in the mix for 5-10 minutes, once every weekend to get rid of fungal infection.
Citric Acid DIY For Your Hands: This homemade recipe is a nail and skin moisturizer that protects the talons, makes them stronger and also removes stains. To prepare the nail soak, take 3 parts olive oil and 1 part lemon juice. Mix well and then heat it so that it is just above body temperature. Dip your hands in this soak for 10 minutes every day for a manicured look.
The sweet benefits of this sour ingredient are aplenty; pretty hands and feet are just a few of them.
