To be honest, they look kinda cool, so let’s not take that away from them. This ’80s hip-hop trend never became mainstream; until now, that is. That said, when it comes to beauty fads, we just don’t know anymore. One moment, people want the fuller brows, the next, they’re shaving slits into them.

It’s no longer just about tweezing. Piercing, rainbow tinting, and even fake hair have been used to experiment with the brow line in the recent past. As for the #eyebrowcuts, the correct term for which is eyebrow shaving, all the likes, regrams and retweets are proof enough that the trend is catching on. Curiosity makes us want to give it a go; sanity says, “I’m too old for this sh*t!”

But, for the sake of our more experimental readers, we’ll tell you all about the slit brows.

The Decade Of EyeBrow Shaving
The trend started in the 1980s, and was made big by the hip-hop community. Rappers like the not-so-little-anymore Bow Wow are still rocking eyebrow cuts. But, it has to be when model Chloe Nørgaard (who you saw in all her rainbow hair glory in the September 2014 issue of Seventeen) posted a photo to her Instagram, that everyone got talking.

Not For Us
You want to know why we wouldn’t be trying this trend? Well, we can think of a couple of reasons:

  1. Eyes (even brows) + Blades = Hell No!
  2. Like, what if they don’t grow back?!!
  3. What if we cut them wrong, or take too much off, or mess up the shape?

If you too, have all of these questions on your mind, well do the smart thing and fake your way into eyebrow shaving for #eyebrowcuts, #eyebrowslits, or what have you. Here’s a video that shows you how to, using just makeup:
