The essential oil of the lavender plant is one of the most popular and most extensively used essential oils – and for good reason. Its scent is sweet, soothing and restorative. And the oil itself is literally soothing; it can be used as an anti-inflammatory to cool and calm skin irritated by insect bites and sun exposure. A lavender and salt bath does wonders for dry, red or itchy skin. Dissolved salt gently exfoliates the skin while the lavender works its magic as a soothing agent. Use this herbal bath remedy at the end of a long day in the sun to refresh skin and settle your spirit before bed.
Directions:
Run a warm bath. Pour in 1/2 cup of sea salt and 1/2 cup of Epsom salt. Stir water gently with your hand to dissolve the salts. Place 3-4 sprigs of fresh lavender in a muslin bag or tie up in cheesecloth (in a pinch, a cut stocking will work in place of muslin or cheesecloth). Place lavender sachet in the water and let soak until water is scented with lavender essence. Soak for 20-30 minutes.
