Regular use of nail paint and acetone can weaken the fingernails, but your nail care routine, or lack thereof, is just as much to be blamed. Save for the customary polish change, how often do you really pamper your talons and give them the attention they need?

While a manicure once a month is a good bet, try this homemade concoction to strengthen the nails.

Ingredients:

  • 1tbsp olive oil
  • 1tbsp castor oil
  • 1tsp honey
  • 1/2 cup shelled walnuts

Preparation:
Grind the walnuts into a coarse powder. Add olive oil, castor oil and honey to make a thick paste. Rub into hands and nails. Rinse with warm water and pat dry. Apply twice a week for best results.

How It Works:
While the walnuts exfoliate, the olive oil helps fight breakage by hydrating the nails and making them more flexible. On the other hand, castor oil boosts overall strength. The honey is added to the mix because of its many bacteria fighting properties and high amounts of potassium which will make your talons, hard as nails.
