Coconut oil is one of the most versatile everyday beauty products a woman can have. It’s all-natural and has no added dyes or perfumes, so it’s perfect for those of us with sensitivities. It works beautifully on sensitive skin and can be a great addition to a gluten-free snack or meal for those of us with gluten sensitivity. The possibilities of coconut oil are just about endless, but here are my favorite ways to use it.
Eye makeup remover
After being on set all day, my favorite way to remove my eye makeup is with coconut oil. It’s not as harsh as some over-the-counter wipes and liquids, and it won’t pull at your eyelashes (ouch!). Another great benefit of using coconut oil as a makeup remover is that it is a great moisturizer for your skin. Other removers can often be harsh on the skin or leave your face feeling dry. In a sense, you get a two-for-one benefit when you use coconut oil to remove makeup.
Lighten age spots
Yes, you read that right! The main antioxidant in coconut oil, Ferulic Acid, prevents cell death, which ultimately slows the aging process. Simply rub it on your skin and watch the age spots lighten. No need to continue your search for the Fountain of Youth; we found it in the grocery store!
Prevent stretch marks
Whether you’re pregnant, or one of your best friends is expecting, here’s a little secret: coconut oil can prevent pregnancy stretch makrs. Since most creams are mostly water based, their moisture is quickly absorbed into dry, wrinkled skin. Coconut oil gives you the perfect mix of hydration and antioxidants to aidskin elasticity and prevent those stretch marks we dread. Another fun fact I love about coconut oil for mommies-to-be: Eating a small amount a day can settle your stomach while you’re experiencing morning sickness. Eat a spoonful straight out of the jar or add it to soup, broth and more.
Add to smoothies for a nutritional boost
One of my favorite ways to start my day off or re-boost after a workout is a delicious green or fruit smoothie. Re-vamp your smoothie with a tablespoon of coconut oil. It increases metabolism and digestion, helping absorb fat-soluble vitamins and working double time as an anti-inflammatory. Not only that, it can positively affect your hormones for thyroid and blood sugar control. This magic in a jar is not only fabulous externally, but also internally!
