Every single one of us faces challenges and obstacles as we navigate through life. Sometimes, those obstacles might test us to our limits and leave us feeling like giving up.

However, quitting is never the answer. It’s how we get back up that makes us stronger as we learn to take the optimistic route of facing the challenge and knowing that it will not last forever.

Objectivity Technique (Anitya Bhavana)

The Objectivity Technique, also known as Anitya Bhavana, helps the yogi develop a “bystander” attitude toward life by developing a certain level of detachment and objectivity to understand that everything is impermanent and will pass.

By engaging in this attitude, we learn to face the challenges of life and overcome all the negativity that we might come across in our day-to-day lives.

Even though the objectivity technique helps us to detach, it doesn’t mean we don’t take action. Instead, we learn to face these obstacles in a better way, knowing that this problem won’t last forever.

Objectivity Technique Directions:

The following steps will help guide you through your objectivity technique practice and help you face all your obstacles with an objective outlook in life.

Step 1

Start by sitting in Sukhasana or any other comfortable meditative pose that allows you to relax. Gently close your eyes.

Step 2

Slowly think of your day and all the events that took place from start to end. Look at all of these events objectively, without any judgment or emotion.

Step 3

To deepen the practice, try to analyze the state of mind and your feelings you had during each event. Stay calm and relax in this position for 10 minutes.

Benefits of Objectivity Technique:

The objectivity technique is a special practice that helps to take a challenge as a challenge, and learn to overcome it without falling into the trap of thinking it will last forever.

Added benefits of practicing the objectivity technique include the following:

  • Enhances memory
  • Increases self-awareness
  • Increases awareness of our environment

Objectivity Technique Recap:

Objectivity technique works to help us define what is permanent and what is not and encourages us to take the appropriate action with an objective outlook when needed.

It is recommended to practice this technique before bedtime and, if possible, on a daily basis. A technique suitable for all ages and yogis at any level of their practice, objectivity technique will help the individual gain quality mindfulness through regular practice.
