Origin of Bikram Yoga

Bikram Yoga is a form of hot yoga that has been practiced in the United States since the 1970s. Created by Bikram Choudhary, Bikram yoga is different from conventional yoga as a session usually takes place in a heated room with a temperature of 104°F (40°C) and lasts 90 minutes.

Bikram Choudhury began his yoga journey by studying yoga in Kolkata and now has more than 50 years of experience in the practice. Bikram yoga includes 26 asanas or postures, which includes two breathing exercises and sequences that warm the body to promote circulation and prevent injury.

Forty-Core Bikram Yoga is also performed in a heated room, with the temperature of about 104°F or 40°C.

Precautions To Take With Bikram Yoga

Although Bikram yoga is shown to provide tremendous health benefits to those who practice, one must always make sure to take certain precautions to prevent serious injury.

1. Dehydration

Make sure to drink lots of water to stay hydrated. Since the practice is in a heated room, it is important to keep hydrated before and after your practice.

2. Meals

Many practitioners recommend eating your meals 2 – 3 hours prior to the yoga session. Following this recommendation will help to prevent dizziness and muscle fatigue.

3. Clothing
