This 5-Minute Low-Fat Strawberry Trifle Is The Perfect Summertime Treat

There's nothing quite so delicious as a ripe strawberry, especially in the summer when berries are bursting from the grocery store shelves and farmer's market stands. But as fans of classic strawberries and cream know well, go a little too heavy on the cream and these healthy berries can turn into a high-fat diet disaster.

Luckily, our popular cooking show Flip My Food focuses on flipping classic American dishes into healthier versions of themselves, and host Jeff Henderson — aka "Chef Jeff" — has the perfect low-fat strawberry dessert recipe.

This strawberry shortcake-style trifle won't destroy your diet. What's more, it's super-easy to make, in under 5-minutes!

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup low-fat Greek yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 ½ cups strawberries (tops cut and quartered)
  • 1 loaf storebought low-fat angel food cake (roughly chopped into bite-size pieces)
  • Mint tops for garnish
  • 3 Mason jars for serving

Directions:

  1. In mixing bowl, whisk honey, cinnamon, nutmeg, and yogurt until smooth.
  2. In large Mason jar, place a one-inch layer of angel food cake, then a  ⅓ cup of Greek yogurt mixture, then a ½ inch layer of strawberries. 
  3. Repeat step two twice more, adding more layers inside your Mason jar. 
  4. Repeat steps two and three using the remaining Mason jars.
  5. Garnish with mint.
