Yogic Diet: Carrot Halwa

  • 50g carrots
  • 100ml milk
  • 20g jaggery
  • A few nuts and raisins

Halwa, a hot Indian dessert, can be prepared with a variety of fruit and veg such as beetroot, pineapple and bottle gourd. But carrot halwa, also called gajar halwa, is perhaps everybody’s favorite. It uses the natural sweetness of juicy carrots, loaded with vitamins and dietary fiber.

This is an oil-free, healthy version of the traditional gajar halwa.


  1. Wash and grate the carrots. Mix carrot and milk in a pan, and cook until tender.
  2. Add grated jaggery and cook on a low flame, stirring constantly till the mixture leaves the sides of the pan.
  3. Garnish with nuts and raisins. Serve hot.
