Known for their anesthetic and antiseptic properties, cloves are an age-old remedy to reduce nausea. Often a precursor to vomiting, nausea can have several causes—food poisoning, motion sickness, dehydration, prescription drugs or stomach infection. Nausea is also common during the early stages of pregnancy.

What Makes Cloves So Effective?
These aromatic buds are packed with soothing properties that act as a natural anesthetic and calm your stomach. Cloves are known as potent anti-inflammatory agents that soothe the lining of your stomach and help in getting rid of that queasy feeling. Owing to their antiseptic and antibacterial properties, they are also effective in treating nausea associated with a stomach infection.

How To Use Them
Here’s how you can use cloves:

  • Clove Tea: Brew a tea by adding 1tsp of clove powder or five to six clove pods to a cup of boiling water. Drink it two to three times a day for quick relief.
  • Cloves & Honey Mixture: Add a pinch of ground and roasted clove pods to 1tsp of honey and have this mixture three to four times a day to alleviate nausea.
  • Clove Oil Inhalation: This remedy is particularly beneficial in relieving pregnancy-related nausea and morning sickness. Sprinkle a few drops of clove oil on your pillow at night, or on your handkerchief and sniff it through the day.
