Q: What are your favorite healthy after-school snacks?
A: For us, the key to all snacks and meals is whole foods. We try to avoid most processed foods and ingredients and to look for foods without any artificial additives. Fresh fruits and vegetables are great snacks, but not always what the kids want to reach for. Our family has many food allergies, so we tend to focus on gluten- and dairy-free foods. My kids love bananas or apple slices with nut butters; gluten free crackers; healthy muffins; fresh fruit smoothies; rice cakes; and gluten-free graham crackers and animal crackers. We also snack on raw and roasted nuts regularly, including almonds and pistachios. For more ideas, check out 9 Healthy Snacks Your Kids Will Love.
