Q: Are there any foods I should avoid while breastfeeding?
A: First and foremost, if you are breastfeeding it’s important to eat a healthy, whole foods diet with plenty of protein, calories, and lots of water.  Beyond that, there are a few foods that could cause upset for your baby, although every mom and baby pair is unique so you need to discover food reactions on an individual basis. Food allergies are on the rise and foods such as peanuts, dairy products, and soy products may affect your baby if he/she is sensitive to these allergens. Caffeine, spicy foods, and very acidic foods may also be problematic for baby.  Cruciferous vegetables, such as broccoli and cabbage may also result in a gassy, unhappy little one.
