Q: For moms who can’t breastfeed, what brand of formula do you recommend?
A: First and foremost for any mom who would like to breastfeed or hopes to breastfeed, I would recommend a trained and certified lactation consultant.  Many moms face breastfeeding challenges but with the right guidance and expertise, these difficulties may be overcome.  If breastfeeding is not an option, there are a growing number of breastmilk donors and milk banks around the country and they are worth investigating.  There are some considerable issues with many commercial formulas and it is difficult to recommend any particular brand.  I would investigate homemade formulas, how to enrich a commercial formula, and discuss these options with both a lactation consultant and with your pediatrician to create a plan for the best possible nutrition for your baby.
