If you’re a beauty junkie like me, you dream about Sephora goodies, Versace fragrances, and NARS eyeshadow color palettes, night after night. But sometimes, it's the many great cosmetics that are super affordable and easily available in the aisles of the local drugstore that prove to be more thrilling than those pricey goodie bags; everyone loves a good bargain! Some of these products are timeless favorites that have been lauded and talked about for years, while others are new and exciting launches that take cue from high-end makeup brands we all lust over so frequently. Here are our favorites:
1) Smith’s Rosebud Salve - $6
Smith’s Rosebud Salve
has been around for decades and there’s a reason for its longstanding popularity. The salve leaves a glossy, barely tinged finish that’s not waxy or sticky and can be used virtually anywhere your skin needs moisture.
2) L'Oréal Voluminous Carbon Black Mascara - $7.99
Another beauty product that you’ll hear about over and over again, the L'Oreal Voluminous Carbon Black Mascara
stands up to more expensive brands of mascara, and won’t flake or clump.
3) Revlon Colorstay Foundation For Combination/Oily Skin - $9.49
If you have combination or oily skin like me, the frustration of foundation that won’t stay put is all too common. The Revlon Colorstay Foundation
is promoted to last 24 hours, and while I can’t substantiate that claim, I can vouch that it outlasts a heavy partying session and still looks flawless at the end of the night. Bonus: There’s a formula for dry skin if oiliness isn’t an issue for you.
4) e.l.f. High Definition Powder - $6
An incredibly affordable version of the high-end HD setting powders, the e.l.f. High Definition Powder
can be worn over foundation or on its own to give a soft focus effect and blur any minor flaws or discoloration. Be sure to check out the rest of the e.l.f. line, I have yet to try a product of theirs that I don’t like!
5) Clean & Clear Oil Absorbing Sheets - $5.99
With the sweltering summer weather fast approaching, these little miracle papers are essential for those who want to keep T-zone shine at bay. Have the Clean & Clear Oil Absorbing Sheets
tucked in your handbag at all times; they're a great way to soak up the greasy shine, contain bleeding makeup, and refresh you mid-day cake face.
6) Purpose Gentle Cleansing Wash - $7.99
The Purpose Gentle Cleanser
is dermatologist recommended, non-comedogenic and perfect for sensitive skin. It effectively cleans a day’s makeup and grime without stripping the skin of essential moisture.
7) Dickinson’s Witch Hazel - $4.25
A cult favorite for toning skin and clearing clogged pores and acne, Dickinson’s Witch Hazel has been around since 1866. The original 100% natural formula now also comes in a package of handy towelettes for cleansing and toning after a sweaty gym session.
8) Nivea Creme - $9.08
Another beauty product that has been around for decades, Nivea Creme
is the be-all and end-all of body creams. Some fans use it as a face cream, but it can be used virtually anywhere on the body and is often suggested for application on scars or bruises.
9) Batiste Dry Shampoo - $7.99
Batiste Dry Shampoo
is the #1 top selling dry shampoo brand in the UK and has recently started picking up attention Stateside. Available in a range of awesome scents (seriously, some of them smell like high-end fragrances), a little goes a long way in refreshing second or third day hair.
10) OGX Intensive Moisture Mask - $7.29
Enriched with ultra-moisturizing macadamia oil, the OGX Intensive Moisture Hair Mask
hydrates and mends damaged, dry hair. And not just that, the mask's lingering fragrance is reminiscent of an expensive spa trip that will have you feeling pampered all day. The solution ably coats hair without feeling sticky or waxy. Leave it on for a few minutes (or longer) for deep penetration before you rinse it out to caress your super smooth, silky strands.
