Quick Fix: Lemon & Potato For Skin Discoloration

Darkened skin, uneven skin tone, hyperpigmentation or discoloration—call it what you will, but the fact remains that patchy skin isn’t quite becoming—particularly when it’s noticeable. Now, an uneven skin tone isn’t exactly a rare skin problem, but it can be quite troublesome, especially when making an impression.

Don’t fret. There are rather simple ways in which you can deal with the problem, and all you need are two humble ingredients from your kitchen—lemon and potato.

But how does lemon or even potato, for that matter, help? Allow us to explain:

Potatoes contain high amount of catecholase, a component that’s known for its potent skin whitening effects. Applying potato slices to one’s face effectively reduces discoloration and dark patches. Lemon, on the other hand, contains high amounts of citric acid, and effectively bleaches the skin, removing discoloration and pigmentation on the neck and face. Lemon is also a strong astringent and is a great remedy to shrink pores, lighten scars, blemishes, dark spots, and prevent further breakouts by killing impurities. Combining the two will give you a powerful remedy to combat patchiness.

A healthy diet of leafy greens, fresh fruit and plenty of water can greatly help. But if you’re looking for a quick-fix, this is your best bet.

DIY Lemon & Potato Face Mask

You Need:

  • 1/2 grated potato
  • 1/2tsp lemon juice

In a small bowl, combine the grated potato and lemon juice, and mix well. Before you apply the mask onto your face, make sure you have washed it. Apply the mixture and leave it on for 15 minutes. After the stipulated time, simply rinse off with cold water and pat dry.
