Awards season may technically be over, but anytime of year is a great time to pull beauty inspiration from the red carpet (did you happen to catch the Met Gala last night?). To simplify our trend-spotting Sparrows Blog
has done some of the leg-work for us with their curated list of vibrant red lipsticks to suit every skin tone, sported by some of our favorite celebs in recent months.
Writer, photographer, and fashion addict Tanya Ramirez is here to give you the complete low-down on the colors of the season. In her blog post Spring Lipstick Looks From Awards Season, she offers an assortment of gorgous spring shades.
A good “lip look” always gets you noticed. This year, the new spring lipstick colors to slay on the red carpet
include a flush of pinks, nudes, and corals. Here are our must-try favorites:
Pretty In Pink
Academy Award’s Best Actress winner Brie Larsen (I love her!) arrived at the red carpet with subdued eye makeup but a bold lip. This fuchsia pink lipstick is not for the faint-hearted and for those who can pull it off, it can be a fantastic color.
It’s fun and a little bit rock n’ roll which can be great to add some edge to your spring makeup selection
. This lip color has purple undertones so it is better-suited for those with a cool or neutral facial tone.
Color Me Coral
The beautiful Olivia Munn showed up to the Oscars in this summer-inspired coral color. This orange-red, or intense apricot, as Chanel likes to call it, can look very daunting. But trust me, the shade is perfect for those who have warm or olive skin tones.
It’s pretty subtle so if this is your first foray into an orange-based lip color, it will help you make a seamless transition. Not only will the lipstick make your eyes pop if they're a bit on the darker side, but it’ll draw attention to your lips which is always a good thing.
As for the ever-outlandish Lady Gaga, she surprised me this Oscars season with a more subdued makeup look to complement her Marilyn Monroe hairdo.
Opting for a medium-pink to coral lip shade, this right here, is the epitome of old Hollywood glamour. The color has both cool and warm tones so it looks good on everyone’s skin.
A Red Hot Favorite
This hot tangerine lipstick is one of my favorites as seen here on Eva Green at the Golden Globes. It’s bright and has warm weather written all over it.
Inspired by model Jerry Hall and the sunset strip of the 1970s, the shade would look awesome on sun-kissed skin
. This color, in particular, is a limited edition by Charlotte Tilbury so get your hands on it before they run out!
From Nudes To Browns
Chrissy Teigen decided to go a little old school with her 90s throwback to a brown lip. No ordinary brown, this makes use of two colors to create a nude shade for a barely-there effect.
The shade looks fantastic on everyone and is perfect for when you want your lip color to be a pretty highlight to your look (like when you're wearing strong eye makeup). It’s a good choice for those casual days at the office or when spending time with the family, too.
The English Rose
Lorde at the Brit Awards not only stole the show with her performance, but had us admiring her fresh-faced makeup as well. She chose to go with a pink-to-nude lip color which has a very classic appeal.
For a stronger statement and long-lasting hold, line your pout with a rose nude lip pencil before you fill in the color; you can alternately add some gloss for a more glamorous effect."
So, now that you know what's in our makeup lust list, how about you tell us your favorite colors of the season?
