Is This The Most WTF Oscars Gift Bag Yet?

by Trina Remedios

While everyone is waiting eagerly for the 88th Academy Awards on the 28th, the run-up to the main event is a bit of a production itself. From red carpet appearances and film promotions, to Oscar menus, hair and makeup trends and million dollar jewels, everything makes headlines owing to the curiosity that surrounds the Awards.

As always, with a price tag of over $200,000 ($232,000 to be precise), the Oscars gift bag steals the show closer to the ceremony and everyone dissects the contents of its priced possesion. This year, it is embroiled in controversy because The Academy has sued Distinctive Assets, the independent gifting company, which is being pulled up for the questionable items in the bag.

With more misses than hits, here are some of the contents in the giveaway.

10-Day All-Expenses-Paid Trip To Israel ($55,000): Sure, Why Not!
It is a treasure trove of history, and home to the lowest and deepest hypersaline lake in the world. For a 10-day trip, the nominees can sunbathe on the beaches and spend every day at the spa smeared with the salts and minerals from the Dead Sea.

Private Walking Tour Of Japan For Up To 15 days ($54,000): Hmmm...
The island nation takes pride in its well-preserved nature and culture. Now, as enticing as the prospect of discovering the Japanese culture and visiting the shrines and imperial palaces sounds, a walking tour... really?

Vampire Breast Lift ($1,900): WTF, Like Seriously!
Kim Kardashian endorsed the Vampire facial back in 2013, and it seems the gifting company is a 'supporter' (sorry for the pun), too. The 15-minute procedure to uplift your rack involves injecting your breasts with your own blood. It's a Hollywood favorite, we hear.

Lizora Pu-erh Tea Nourishing Creams & Cleansing Bars ($31,200): Could Do With Or Without
Part of the TeaTox fad, the brand's nourishing creams and bars claim to be natural and organic as they use the caffeinated beverage to bottle some skincare solutions. A lifetime supply for free isn't the worst thing.

3 Fitness Training Sessions With Jay Cardiello ($1,400): Curiously Inclined
Only the best for the best—Jay Cardiello is a strength and conditioning coach who is revered in the fitness and medical industry. The Oscars bag is offering three coveted face-to-face sessions with the man who created the No Diet Plan. Jennifer Lopez, Ryan Seacrest, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Sofia Vergara and Julianne Hough, all have him on speed dial.

Steamist Spa System ($5,060): Yes, Please!
This giveaway involves installing a luxurious spa system in the homes of the film industry's hardworking nominees. The technology that comes with it is futuristic, the design is sleek, and the experience is priceless.

3-Night Stay At The Grand Hotel Excelsior Vittoria in Sorrento, Italy ($5,000): Molto Bene :)
A luxury hotel steeped in history and situated in picturesque Sorrento overlooking the vast sea is the accomodation on offer. With access to the boutique spa and other 5-star amenities, the nominees can now mark Italy on their holiday list this year; we know we would.

Ultherapy From 740 Park ($5,530): No. Just, No!
This laser skin-tightening procedure is a non-invasive skin treatment by a pair of Manhattan plastic surgeons. Sorry, but that's a hard pass from our side.

In addition to the above, there's other random and very basic stuff like personalized M&Ms, toilet paper, chapstick, anti-perspirant patches, and protein bars. But, perhaps the most out-of-place and appaling additions include a Haze Dual V3 Vaporizer (MaryJane in the house!), and the Nuelle Fiera "Arouser for Her" sex toy.

We have mixed feelings about the gift bag. You?
