Tried & Tested: A Video Tutorial For No-Heat Straightening

by Charlene Flanagan

The biggest issue with winter hair is that blow-drying to wear it straight can leave you with crazy frizziness that kills the whole look and wreaks havoc on your hair follicles. Adding to our 'Bedtime Rituals For Gorgeous Hair' series, we now recommend this no-heat straightening hack by YouTube vlogger Nicole Skyes. No styling products, hair dryers or straighteners are needed for this one.

What You Do Need Though:

  • Bobby Pins
  • A Hair Net/Shower Cap
  • A Good Night's Rest

Now, depending on the length of your hair, we imagine the prep time can vary anywhere between 15 and 30 minutes. That said, if you're looking for a way to straighten your locks without those damaging styling tools, we assure you that this little video does just the trick.

Once you've nailed the method, here are some tips to help you maintain the look for 3-4 days straight (pun intended):

  • Use a paddle brush with a flat, square head because it's least likely to put a dent in your style. A wide-tooth comb is yet another way to minimize static.
  • We finished our look with a straightening product or hair serum to control flyaways. This helps weigh your locks down for a sleeker and shinier mane.
  • Now, using a hair tie at the nape of the neck caused a little ripple in our hair. Soon, we realised that trading it for bobby pins was a practical way to maintain the look and keep the hair out of our face.
  • Also, tie a silk scarf or hair wrap around your mane overnight. This helped minimize frizz which usually comes from friction with the pillow case, and had us waking up to virtually untouched hair that looked as slick as before.

As for those who'd rather flaunt curls this season, don't worry, you haven't been forgotten. Here's a video tutorial for no-heat curls (needs no heating tools) that we've also tried and tested so that you don't have to. Have a good hair day, ladies.
