You slice some bread for your morning peanut butter and jelly sandwich, butter-it-up for your afternoon soup, and then toast it to accompany your evening salad. There are so many things you can use bread for, and yet there’s only so much you can eat through the day. With only half the slab used, it’s a pity that the rest of it could go stale soon.
It’s true that bread can go stale easily if not stored correctly, especially if it is store-bought. But this quick tip could make it last longer.
Before you put your bread away for the day, slice up the loaf, but don’t just dump it in the refrigerator. Storing bread in the fridge draws out the moisture, causing it to go stale and dry. Instead, it is wiser to store it in the freezer.
- Line a baking tray with parchment paper and arrange the slices on it.
- Keep this tray uncovered in the freezer, until the bread freezes.
- Transfer the frozen slices into a freezer bag, and make sure you squeeze out as much air as possible. Put it back in the freezer.
- In this state, your bread can stay fresh and edible for upto six months from the date of manufacture. To use, simply thaw the slices at room temperature, or toast them.
