Spring Cleaning Just Got Real: 200 Things to Throw Away

by Z Living Staff

Embracing Homemaking’s recent post really got us in the mood for spring, with their list of 200 things that you can throw away. We love this idea of turning all of the junk in your house into a spring cleaning scavenger hunt.

There’s a lot of things on this list that are obvious (old TV boxes, Video games you’ll never play again, multiple pairs of scissors) but there are some surprises as well (unused makeup, unread books, take out menus you really don’t need.

Just to get you started, here are the first 10:

  1. Old product boxes (Apple products, TV, etc.)

  2. Hangers from the dry cleaners

  3. Plastic hangers from the store

  4. Expired makeup

  5. Half-finished projects…you know the one!

  6. Magazines

  7. Old emery boards

  8. Old paint

  9. Ugly undergarments you hate to wear (You have those “just in case” pairs too, right?)

  10. Bills, taxes, paperwork over 7 years old.

It seems that everyone’s getting on the Konmari method train. When it comes to decluttering your space, discarding is the key here. See, it’s not about putting things away, it’s about getting rid of the things you truly don’t need.

Oh, and by the way, be sure to sort your discarded items into three categories: trash, recycling, and for donation. Just because you don’t need those old blankets doesn’t mean someone else won’t want them!
