Adopt a Chihuahua For Christmas! 11 Shelter Pups Looking For Homes

by The Z Living Editors

In anticipation of Z Living's upcoming original show Finding Fido, where underwater dog photographer Seth Casteel matches families with the perfect pooch, we're finding the cutest pups from shelters across America who are looking for a forever home, and sharing them with you. Keep checking in for more adoptable dogs, and learn more about Finding Fido here.

Maybe it's their pointy elf ears or their little reindeer bodies, but Chihuahuas make perfect Christmas gifts for someone looking for a lap dog.

They're tough little rascals with big hearts, but their delicate teeth and frail legs prevent them from playing with the big dogs. Chihuahuas are the smallest breed of dog, and should be adopted by someone who has time to pay attention to a delicate dog's unusual needs.

The little guys below, all awaiting adoption around the US, caught our attention. Think you may be a match for one of these dogs? Contact the shelter directly. Then, tag your new pet with the hashtag #FindingFido to let us know who you saved.

Even if you don't adopt a dog yourself this year, give back to animal shelters by joining our #FindingFido campaign: Through mid-January, we're giving away $5000 to animal shelters around the US. For every #FindingFido hashtag used we'll donate $1 to a Greater Good partner organization. Tag a photo of your dog with the hashtag, plus add the social handle of a shelter you admire to nominate them to win! Learn more here.

UP FOR ADOPTION: Bo Peep (f.) from Magnificent Mutts Rescue in Hillside, IL

"Bo Peep was found as a stray. She is approx 5 years old. She gets along with all dogs but is protective of her food around other dogs. We do not know how she is with cats. It took her a while to get used to her new foster home, but now she is a sweet, lovable lap dog and very playful. In any new situation, even with her new family, she may need a couple of days to readjust, but we know she can do it."

UP FOR ADOPTION: Bashote (f.) from DC PAWS Rescue in Washington, DC

"Bashote is a tiny, friendly pup looking for a foster, or even better, forever home so that she can leave that yucky shelter and come to the DC area into a warm home. Elle is still young so she will need someone to help her with her manners and obedience, as well as who will give her plenty of exercise and walks. She is also quite little, so she may fit best with a home without young kids who can easily overwhelm her. "
