How a Stray Argentinian Dog Charmed His Way Across the World

by Ajableu Oldham

Flight attendant Olivia Sievers met a stray dog roaming the streets of Buenos Aires. She travels frequently between her home in Germany and Argentina, and on this occassion felt comfortable enough to offer the pup some food and attention—inadvertantly opening the doors to a new, lifelong friendship.

According to The Dodo, Sievers noticed the dog finding her on the streets, joining her side whenever he could. She tried to use a different path when walking to her hotel, so that the dog would eventually move on, but it didn’t quite work.

"He always came back and followed me," she told, Noticiero Trece, "He always watched me and followed me. He was really happy that somebody gave him attention."

At this point, Sievers named her buddy Rubio, who started waiting for her at the entrance of the Buenos Aires hotel. When this business trip came to an end, the traveler left Rubio a blanket and went home to Germany.

On Sievers’ next trip to Buenos Aires, Rubio found her almost immediately and went right back to his routine of walking her home, and hanging outside the hotel. Touched, but hesitant, she tried taking him to a rescue shelter, but the dog escaped and found her on the streets again.

Finally, the dog’s persistence paid off when Sievers decided to adopt him. As of this August, Rubio is no longer homeless, living happily with a flight attendant in Germany.
