In anticipation of Z Living's upcoming original show Finding Fido, where underwater dog photographer (yes, that's right) and behaviorist Seth Casteel hosts plays matchmaker each week between a person and a pooch, we're collecting and telling a series of heart-warming pet stories.Follow along and check back often; we'll have plenty to share!

Click through the slide show to discover 5 steps to find the best real-life pet angel, who will care of your beloved dog, cat, or other loved animal.

Tammy, our pet sitter, showed up at my house at 8 a.m. on a Saturday. She sorted through my closets and crawled under my bed until she finally found our beloved tiger cat Circe, in her the hiding place.

Tammy gently cradled Circe as she put her into a pet carrier and drove her to the vet. The week before we left town, Circe had a full check up at our vet. She seemed fine, but she was very sick. Our hearts were broken. But thanks to Tammy’s generosity and kindness, we knew our 15-year old kitty had lived her last days loved and cared for.

Tammy isn’t a relative or a longtime personal friend. She is the saintly neighbor – with small kids and pets of her own -- who babysits our cats. And she’s the reason we can take vacations without worrying that our cats will be neglected.

Anyone who loves their pets understands why my husband Wayne and I worry  (some might think excessively) when we put our cats in the care of others.
