New England is most commonly associated with bright foliage and clam chowder, but its abundance of charming local farms is our favorite of the region’s many cornerstones. In the realm of healthy travel, you can't beat the open air and farm-fresh eats at each of these rural destinations.
Providing apple picking, corn mazes and delectable, fresh-baked goods, these are a few of our favorite New England farms to visit:
Wright’s is a staple of Rhode Island. Guests visit to find an entire barn full of fresh dairy and baked treats—everything from Dutch Apple Pie to fresh coffee milk—at this family-run farm. Being a dairy farm, Wrights’s cows and treats are its most prized attractions. Before leaving, be sure to try one of the heaping bags of chocolate covered apples, or babka bread for some homey comfort.

Just outside of Boston is a top contender for the best urban destination in the country. Lookout Farm has fantastic train rides, jungle gyms, and corn mazes for kids and parents to explore. This kid-friendly establishment also speaks to adults with the newly-added Taproom, where you can try a variety of fresh alcoholic ciders, fresh-cheese charcuterie, and other snacks. Keep healthy exploring the property, or kick back and vacation with its many treats.
Only an hour outside of Boston, Jaswell’s Farm has a traditional vegetable stand and offers apple picking for a quintessential New England experience. Family-run, the farm has plenty of apples, blueberries, and pumpkins for visitors to pluck themselves. The farm also has a stand with caramel and chocolate apples, pies, apple cider doughnuts (the best!). Come winter, Jaswell’s becomes a Christmas tree lot, for a little farm-to-table yuletide. Eat healthy, warm yor spirit, and connect with nature at this eclectic getaway.

The Fantastic Umbrella Factory is a comprehensive establishment that wears many hats—part organic farm, general store, artisan co-op, vintage eyeglass retailer, and custom apparel shop. Each of its stores and operations is set on the same piece of property at the bottom of Rhode Island. Sample some farm-fresh veggies and international eats like Pad Thai and burritos. All things considered, The Fantastic Umbrella Factory is an easy place to get zen.
