The simple pleasures of life lie at the bottom of a pasta bowl, pizza box, or a glass of wine. “You are what you eat.” So does that make us as stringy as spaghetti, cheesy as pizza, or ruby-hued like wine? Well, apparently it just makes us look like old hags, or so a new study would suggest.
While fatty foods contribute to cholesterol and your waistline generously, as has always been known, what’s news is that they also speed up the skin aging process.
Foods with a high glycemic index, such as alcohol, caffeine, white bread, noodles, sugar, processed foods, aerated drinks, artificial sweeteners, pizza bases, pasta, and cakes are all guilty as charged. Not only do they contribute to wrinkles and fine lines, they also propel acne breakouts.
While you don’t need to ditch these altogether, portion control is of the essence, if you really want those magical potions, anti-aging creams, and skincare lotions to do their job.
And if you’re serious about making the change, swap the comfort foods with fresh fruits and vegetables. Packed with antioxidants and minerals, they pump up the collagen levels and iron out wrinkles and signs of aging.
Eat at least three servings of carotenoid-rich fruits and vegetables every day to boost radiance and help protect against acne, scarring, and aging. Include green leafy vegetables and fruits with red/orange/yellow flesh (ie, carrots, sweet potato, squash, bell peppers, tomatoes, and cantaloupe).
For the rest, just indulge in a skin detox with these natural concoctions, and you’re good to go.
