A new study has indicated that social networking sites might be useful when it comes to maintaining long-distance romantic relationships.
It looks at the importance of social networks and explores the role they play in helping maintain a long-distance relationship. Brenda K Wiederhold, PhD, San Diego, said that social network sites are used more frequently by those in long-distance relationships. It has become important to understand the role that technology plays in strengthening or damaging a romantic relationship.
Co-authors Cherrie Joy Billedo, Peter Kerkhof, and Catrin Finkenauer, from VU University Amsterdam and University of the Philippines, studied the types of social network sites between two groups. They examined how the use of these sites allows individuals to access information about romantic partners, and how that can be used to gauge a partner’s involvement in the relationship and their loyalty levels. The study was published in the journal Cyberpsychology, Behavior, And Social Networking.
