A French study conducted by scientists at the University of Grenoble has found that men who love spicy food have higher levels of testosterone and perform better in bed.
The research observed 114 men in the age group 18 to 44, who were given a meal of mashed potatoes with spicy pepper sauce and salt. It collected their saliva samples and was found that these men had higher levels of testosterone. This led to finding the correlation between spicy food consumption and the male hormone.
Study co-author Laurent Begue stated that regular consumption of spicy food contributes to increasing testosterone levels although the mechanism behind this is still not known. Conversely, low testosterone levels are associated with lethargy or depressive mood.
Aptly titled Some Like It Hot, the study appeared in the peer-reviewed journal Physiology and Behavior.
