Green-Living-QA-Is-It-More-Eco-Friendly-To-Run-The-Dishwasher-Or-Wash-Dishes-By-Hand_158842952

Q: Is it more eco-friendly to run the dishwasher or do dishes by hand?
A: That really depends upon how you run your dishwasher or how you wash dishes! If you are using an energy-efficient dishwasher that is filled, using options that reduce water use and air dry, the dishwasher just may win out. But if you run your dishwasher when it’s half full or use heat to dry, the question is harder to answer. TreeHugger did a great article on this not too long ago, approaching it rather scientifically, and agree that the automatic dishwasher on the right settings and at capacity is probably the greenest choice. Here’s a link for all the details: http://www.treehugger.com/kitchen-design/built-in-dishwashers-vs-hand-washing-which-is-greener.html.
