How do I make the bedroom less toxic?
Creating a healthy bedroom is pretty simple. Two easy tips: First, start with your bed. Since you spend about 8 hours a night in bed (if you’re lucky enough to get that much sleep!) you want to make sure your mattress isn’t made with synthetic ingredients that off-gas, or release chemicals into the air that you breathe. So get yourself a good quality, natural mattress, because the one you’re sleeping on right now probably contains polyurethane (PU) foam, Styrofoam and polyester, which are made from things like crude oil and natural-gas.  It also has probably been treated with flame retardants (PBDEs) and water and stain-resistant chemicals that are recognized carcinogens. Choose a mattress made from untreated, non-toxic natural materials containing no synthetic chemicals or fire retardants. If you can’t afford a new mattress, buy a wool and organic cotton mattress topper.

Second, get rid of all the electronics in you bedroom…computers, cell phones, electric clocks, TVs. If you can’t move them out of your room turn them off. Your bedroom should be an oasis of calm and electrical devices can disrupt sleep.
