If you’ve been struggling to make headway on something you want to achieve, here are three counter-intuitive ideas that work together to bring about the kind of quantum leap you may have been dreaming about. Because listen up: You don’t have to be content with improving your life gradually. You can make an explosive jump toward the success you’re looking for without trying any harder! Really. So let's get started.
So What Exactly is a "Quantum Leap"?
Most people operate with a mindset that assumes success comes from a one-step-at-a-time approach. But life doesn’t always have to move like that. You can just as easily think in terms of skipping levels and directly jumping to one that’s several stages higher. The concept is one of “exponential gains rather than incremental progress."
Quantum leaps have the “wow” factor but are also simple, energy efficient, and timesaving. And the breakthrough comes when you let go of what you thought was necessary to get there.
Here's three ways how:
1. Focus on the Ends, not Means.
In Price Pritchett’s little known but classic book You, he states,“It is crucial to have a crystal clear picture of what you want to accomplish. Operate with a sharply defined mental image of the outcome you seek… Visual your arrival. When you do that, it’s like you “magnetize” yourself to the ways… for getting there. The solutions begin to appear. Answers come to you.”
In other words you don’t have to worry about how it’s going to happen. You can let go of the struggle. Yes. Really. Forget trying to micro-manage the process... and sucking all the fun and spontaneity out of it. As Pritchett brilliantly says in You, your quantum leap is:
“Not something you have to struggle to make happen. You don’t really force it into existence… you just let it occur. The key is not to get in the way!”
For all you Type A’s who like to have your ducks lined up well before anything happens, this can feel scary. I totally get you. But as Pritchett writes, “You must be willing to tolerate ambiguity, confusion, possible even chaos for a while, shaping your game plan as you go. Allow some disorder in your life. For now, all you need is an aiming point… and action”. Funnily enough, when I reflect on the times in my own life that I’ve had the most success (and the most fun!) it was when I allowed myself to take a fly-by-the-seat-of-pants approach, jump, and work it out on the way down, sans parachute.

2. Rely on Unseen Forces
In You, Pritchett makes it very clear that making a quantum leap does not mean doing it alone. He says “There are resources you can access that cannot be seen, and they are far greater and more powerful” than anything you can observe.
Here’s an example of what he means by that: “Think of an iceberg, where you see only the tip of what’s really there. Just as real, though out of sight, are invisible resources ready to make a profound difference in what you can achieve. All you have to do is open up and let them in.
These unseen forces seem to operate through your subconscious, mental imagery and ‘luck’. You might be hit with a flash of inspiration during a moment of solitude. A creative solution to a problem may come in a dream. A breakthrough idea can flash through your mind while you’re visualizing your goal. Somehow the resources you need just seem to appear by coincidence.”
Powerful stuff. But how do you do it? How do you tap into these “unseen forces”? The answer is elegantly simple, yet transformational: “When you focus constantly on a clear picture of what you want to accomplish, and move towards it confidently, the unseen forces will rally to your support”.
Here’s an example of how unseen forces have worked in my life. In 2014 I began a career in freelance writing. I loved it, but just as I was starting to get little traction and to think I might actually have something to share that people liked, I got distracted. I took on a full-time administrative role because I thought that was the safe thing to do to pay the bills. I kept writing the odd article here and there but I certainly wasn’t focusing constantly on my clear picture of being a full-time writer.
Why? I was scared it wasn’t possible and that I didn’t have what it takes. Instead, I took my eye off my end goal and dabbled in this and that for another big chunk of time. I began loathing myself. Then, one miserable afternoon as I was conscientiously researching…aka wasting time on Facebook...I came across a post by “Spiritual Medium and Soul Trainer” Bree Melanson. Something in me said, "Get yourself on the wait-list for a 1:1 session with her." I wanted to be spiritually shaken on why I kept procrastinating with my writing.
I cannot praise this woman’s ability enough. My session gave me chills and so much more than I’d bargained for. The first was feedback on my son, who hadn’t been top of mind when I’d contacted Melanson, but it was exactly what I needed to hear and gave me a completely different way of looking at something we were going through with him. That, in itself, was worth more than the cost of the session.
But then she channeled feedback from my guides on my writing – they told me to stop worrying about pleasing anyone else, to stop looking for validation outside of myself and to just start (and not stop) writing about topics that lit me up. Within three short months, Z Living (yep, the health and wellness media outlet publishing this piece) contacted me out of the blue and asked me to write for them. I had not pitched them prior to that initial contact. I’d just been writing from my heart, as my guides had told me to do, when someone from their team read an article I’d written on meditation, and contacted me, saying they wanted to feature my writing on their site. I’m now writing for them on a weekly basis – amen to unseen forces!

3. The Power of Pursuit
As Melanson and my guides said, I got to work. Writing. Day in, and day out. This of course, is the crucial element, as Pritchett explains “The world behaves differently when you actually take action to go after what you want. What you wish “could be” starts becoming. The dream moves in your direction, begins to come to you, even as you reach for it."
“Wishing, longing, wanting, desiring… these are not the same are pursuing a dream." You can “think positively” all day long, all year, but positive action is all that counts – know that every goal you’ve ever achieved was because you pursued it!
