No matter what you have going on in your life - kids, job, business, study, possibly all of these or more, we all want to unshackle from the never-ending pressures of our to-do lists. And, bask in long carefree summer days… as quickly as possible.
But if you’re anything like my former self, it can take weeks to let go, relax and release
into those feel-good longer days and balmy nights. And the weeks it takes to unwind are the ones that most of us don’t have to spare. So here are three mindset shifts you can make now, so you’ll be in your flow and vibrating summer by the time school breaks.
1) Stop “in-boxing” first thing in the morning.
I’ve mentioned this one before, in my article The 1 Thing To Stop Doing Right Now To Become More Productive. So instead of thinking of this only as a productivity tip, see it as a way of taking your life back. It's something that gets you out of reactionary mode and pleasing everyone else, and allows you to stay focused on what you want. What better way to prepare for the summer you desire!
Refresher? Do not check your email or social networks for at least the first 60 minutes of your day. Why? Because when we "inbox" we’re checking out of our world and into someone else’s. Instead, spend that first hour deciding:
- what are the projects YOU want to work on today
- who do YOU want to reach out to today and
- what are the priorities that YOU must accomplish today to bring you closer to achieving your dreams?
If you're here to achieve a certain kind of summer this year, then this is your time to plan it out and make it happen.
2) Start saying NO to things that don’t light you up. And begin your day with this “YES” technique.
This is a simple daily habit to help you raise your set-point and have you vibe-ing summer in no time.
From the moment you wake up in the morning, start saying the word “YES!” and keep repeating the word Yes! and thinking Yes! and feeling Yes! What does "Yes" feel like in your heart, in your hands, in your head, what does it feel like in your gut?
Jump out of bed and continue saying it – YES! to your life, your past and your future. Start saying yes to yourself because the more you do, the higher your vibration will skyrocket.
3) Begin a Notebook of Exquisite Moments.
Many people say that building a gratitude list is one of the best ways to feel good. While this is true, making a gratitude list can sometimes feel like yet another to-do list of things, this time of items I “should be” grateful for, but don't necessarily light up my soul.
I'd like to propose another solution – find something that LIGHTS YOU UP and plunges you into that happy feeling, instant summer place.
This is how it works – simply be on the look out for at least 1 “exquisite moment” that spontaneously passes your way each day and write it down in a new place that becomes your Notebook of Exquisite Moments.
Take note – these moments are not an event, or a whole or half-day thing. They’re something that stirs your soul and ignites that inner smile. Some examples of my exquisite moments are watching the way a little girl looks up into her grandfather’s eyes as they share a cup of ice cream together, or the smell of the ocean’s salty spray on a warm spring afternoon.
This technique shows us how to uncover those spontaneous gorgeous moments that come to each of us on a daily basis, often without us realizing. Doing so helps build our happiness muscle everyday of the year.
While it might have taken you weeks to feel relaxed and on vacation in the past, these tips will have you already there by the time summer truly rolls round – basking in every moment. Keep practicing them and people will think you’re just back from vacay all year round.
