An allergy is an immune response that doesn't bother most other people. Normally, your body's defense system fights off germs. However, an allergic reaction is more like a false alarm in which the body over reacts to substances such as pollen, mold spores, food, pet dander, medicines, insect stings and dust mites.
Symptoms Of Allergies
Sneezing, itching, rashes, runny nose, swelling or asthma are some of the symptoms of allergies. Allergies can be either minor or severe. Anaphylaxis (a severe allergic reaction) can also become life-threatening.
Doctors use blood and skin tests to diagnose allergies. Treatment for allergies could include allergy shots, medicines and minimizing contact with substances that can cause allergy reactions.
In this episode of Health Soup
, Sarita Lou joins Abra Pappa from NutritiousAmerica.com
, to talk about symptoms of allergies and their natural cures.
Here are four ways to keep allergies at bay.
1. Loose Clothes
Begin by wearing loose fitting clothes. Wearing tight fitting clothes can aggravate skin allergies such as rashes and cause irritation. Thus, it is advisable to wear clothes that are comfortable and allow your skin to breathe freely.
2. Healthy Diet
One should eat a diet rich in fresh fruit and vegetables and also drink about eight to 10 glasses of water every day. Eating the right diet and staying hydrated helps reduce stress and minimizes allergic response.
3. Avoid Allergens
Cover your nose with a napkin when exposed to dust or smoke to minimize exposure to allergens.
If you are prone to allergies, herbs such as peppermint and stinging nettle can be of great help. Ginger and cinnamon are also excellent sources of antioxidants which aid in strengthening the immune system and help alleviate the symptoms.
