As the weather turns hot and humid, your body tries to regulate its internal temperature by making you sweat excessively. However, sometimes the sweat ducts get blocked and force the sweat to trickle into your skin, resulting in tiny, red bumps on your body.
A common problem during summer, a heat rash (or prickly heat) may appear on the back, the chest or other parts of the body. It usually looks like small painful, welts and may appear as acne-like breakouts in severe cases.
While there are several ways to cool your body to beat the heat, certain home remedies can also be useful in reducing the itch and inflammation. So, if you’re trying to soak in a cold water bath to soothe your body, add baking soda to it to make it more effective. We tell you why.
Baking Soda & Prickly Heat
Weakly alkaline in nature, baking soda helps in breaking down acids and proteins, gently cleansing and exfoliating your skin in the process. While its anti-inflammatory properties reduce pain and inflammation, its antibacterial nature prevents the rash from spreading to other parts of the body.
How To Use It
- Add a cup of baking soda to a tub of cold water and let it dissolve completely. Soak in this bath for 20 to 30 minutes twice daily to make the rash disappear.
