V-Day Special: Weekend Getaways For Every Kind Of Couple

by Charlene Flanagan

Been too busy to make plans for Valentine's Day? Well, sometimes just taking off for an overnight trip or a weekend getaway is all a couple really needs. Also this year, 14th Feb falls on a Sunday, so one might even say it's the universe's way of getting you out of the everyday rut—if you believe in that kind of stuff.

Now, we trailed the States to spot scenic locales and check-ins that are worthy of the occasion. Keeping in mind varied budgets, ambience, and experiences, here are the top three that made it to our wishlist on such short notice.

On A Budget? Head To Eastman Inn
There’s nothing quite like a B&B when it comes to spending quality time in a homely estate. Now, the meals are included in the package although your booze cruise is at an additional charge, so you may want to pack some wine. Surrounded by 660,000 acres of the White Mountain National Forest, Mt Washington Valley, you wake up to a view, can hit the slopes together, cuddle up in front of the fireplace, all at a minimum cost of $99 per night. Cool, right?

Want To Turn Up The Heat? Head To Turtle Bay Resort
As is expected, one would need to loosen the purse strings a tad bit more for white sandy beaches and clear blue waters in the month of Feb. If you want to get away from the freezing temperatures, head to Turtle Bay Resort in Hawaii, we say! You can choose from cottages that face the ocean, make the most of the spa packages, and revel in the glory of the shining sun for a break from the cold winds. On the menu should be relaxing couple massages, long, luxurious baths for two :), and the catch of the day on your plates, fresh from the sea. FYI, if you intend to pop the question this Valentine's Day, don't do it in a clichéd restaurant, do it in Hawaii! Now, who can say no to that? Turn up the heat with packages beginning at $269 per night.

Rough It Out In The Lap Of Luxury At White Barn Inn
There’s something quite romantic about roughing it out—camp fires, the 'one with nature feeling', and even the idea of fending for yourself can be quite appealing. Unfortunately, while women like the idea, in theory, we don't cope well with squatting behind the bushes or sleeping in tents when the time comes. Well, the White Barn Inn does a fine job of creating the illusion of a rustic environment in an upscale setting. The whole place is a series of beautiful contradictions: The gated Waterfront Cottages provide you access to the wharf and river where you can go canoeing; The traditional Garden Suites where you can go biking, are lined with a plush swimming pool and house a private Jacuzzi. As for the Main House rooms, they were originally constructed in the 19th century and have retained the old architecture which is juxtaposed by some contemporary decor and art pieces. Starting at $670 per night, if you're in it for an all-around experience, then this is the place to be.

Just remember, the road you choose to walk down with your partner is irrelevant; what matters is that you should make it an adventure to remember. So whether you splurge on a weekend getaway or stay at home, make it count because Valentine's Day, while many may find lame, is an occasion to celebrate each other and what you have.
