Well, regular running might be your answer according to a new study published last month in Progress in Cardiovascular Disease. As the researchers determined, just an hour of running could add about 7 more hours to your life.

Here’s How Running Can Add Hours To Your Life:
Describing the findings, the New York Times notes, “The new study found that, compared to nonrunners, runners tended to live about three additional years, even if they run slowly or sporadically smoke, drink, or are overweight.”
The exploration began three years ago with a study of data from a wave of medical and fitness tests held at the Cooper Institute in Dallas. The summed-up findings said that as little as five minutes of daily running could help you live longer. This sparked a wide range of questioning, scrutiny, and further inquiries from the scientific community and general public.
Fast-forward to now, Duck-chul Lee, a professor of kinesiology at Iowa State University set out with some colleagues to reanalyze the Cooper Institute data alongside a large number of other large-scale studies looking at mortality-exercise relationships. The New York Times says, “Cumulatively, the data indicated that running, whatever someone’s pace or mileage, dropped a person’s risk of premature death by almost 40 percent, a benefit that held true even when the researchers controlled for smoking, drinking and a history of health problems such as hypertension or obesity.”

Using the statistics gathered, the scientists did some very interesting math to put your exercise into perspective. One intriguing finding was, over the course of 40 years, exercising just two hours per week will add up to less than six months of exercise. At the same time, it could extend your life 3.2 years, giving you nearly 2.7 extra years of non-exercise living time. And, statistically-speaking, an hour of running could add seven hours to your life.
