Berry Beautiful: DIYs For Clean & Clear Skin

Well, a vision of chocolate-dipped strawberries is synonymous with Valentine’s Day; that, and two flutes of champagne. This little berry is not just a great way to set the mood, but also to prep your skin for the big day, once it’s stirred up with some other ingredients.

On their own, a topical application of strawberries can clear dead skin cells, soothe skin allergies, remove impurities, prevent age spots and treat freckles.

The berry is a potent source of antioxidants—vitamins B and C—and acids like Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs), salicylic acid, ellagic acid, omega-3, and flavonoids. All these natural properties work in unison to protect the skin from age draining free radicals.

That said, let strawberries come to the rescue this Valentine’s Day, for both your skin and your libido.

1Strawberry & Almond Oil Scrub

Puree 3-4 strawberries, add 1tsp lemon juice, 1tbsp brown sugar, and 2 tsp almond oil. Mix well and massage it onto your skin for 5 minutes. Wash with warm water. This little home remedy is a natural anti-aging mix.

2Strawberry & Coconut Oil Scrub

Make a paste of 4 strawberries, and mix in half cup sugar and 3tbsp coconut oil. Gently scrub your face with it for 5-7 minutes, and then rinse with warm water. The addition of coconut oil injects the skin with vitamin E, which hydrates the skin and prevents fine lines and wrinkles.

3Strawberry & Honey Scrub

Take the mash of 3 strawberries in a bowl, and add 1tbsp honey. Relax your skin by massaging the scrub on your face in circular motions. The strawberries will clear your pores with acids and antioxidants, while the honey will act as a natural moisturizer.

4Strawberry & Lemon Scrub

In a bowl, mash 2-3 strawberries with 1tsp lemon juice. Gently massage it onto your face for 5 minutes. Wash it with warm water, and then with cold water to close the pores. This DIY will create a matte effect on oily skin and give you an inherent glow.

Strawberry & Oats Scrub

Take the mash of 2 strawberries in a bowl, add 1tbsp milk and 1tbsp oatmeal powder and mix well. Scrub your face with this paste in circular motions for 5 minutes. Rinse with cold water and pat dry.

These ingredients will act as exfoliating agents that will get rid of dead skin cells, and give rise to renewed, brighter and more even-toned skin.
