While making your own beauty solutions can be quite tricky, and sometimes tiresome, they’re well worth the effort. To put it simply, its because you know exactly what you’re putting in your homemade hair masks, shampoos, creams and scrubs. Now, while some ingredients that promote healthy skin can be a little hard to find, and let’s not forget, expensive, there are those that are easily available and packed with amazing beauty benefits—like honey!

Famed for its antioxidant and moisturizing qualities, honey is a great way to hydrate and detoxify your skin. The natural cleanser exfoliates and facilitates the production of collagen to give you younger-looking skin, while tempering the appearance of acne and scars and evening out your skin tone.

Consider this: Simply massaging honey on your lips every morning for 10 minutes can instantly hydrate your pout and make your mouth appear plump because of a surge in the moisture content in the lips. By the very same principle, this humble ingredient is indeed the queen bee of anti-aging solutions, particularly for those who have sunken eyes and sallow skin. Here are some DIYs you must try:

Cucumber Honey For Under Eye Hydration

You need

  • 1tbsp aloe vera gel
  • 2tsp cucumber (peeled with seeds removed)
  • 1/2tsp chamomile tea
  • 1/2tsp honey

First, steep the chamomile tea in boiling water and set aside to cool. Next, combine cucumber, aloe vera and honey in a food processor and blend on a low setting. After the mixture is broken down, slowly add the chamomile tea and blend until smooth. Apply gently under the eyes, using your ring finger. This mixture can be stored in a glass dish covered with a plastic wrap in a refrigerator for up to one week.

Egg White & Honey Anti-Aging Face Mask

You need

  • 1 egg white
  • 1tbsp honey
  • 4 drops fennel essential oil
  • 4 drops sandalwood essential oil

Blend the ingredients into a paste and apply it to the skin. Leave it on for 20 minutes before rinsing with tepid water. This paste can also be applied on the neck, forearms and hands. Just make sure you clean your skin before applying the mask.

Make note that lemons, essential oils, flaxseeds, prunes, tomatoes, and foods rich in vitamin A (retinol) are among the many other ingredients you can choose from to contain your youthful appearance. Keep it fresh, peeps!
