Touted as the worst kind of acne, blackheads are caused by stress, hormonal changes, excessive oil and dirt build-up, or inadequate skincare routines. They are nothing but hair follicles that are blocked by impurities and bacteria. When the hormone dihydrotestosterone is active, it triggers an overproduction of sebum (oil), in turn blocking the pores.
Now, store-bought pore strips typically cost $10 and above. Why not just make your own with ingredients that are readily available in your kitchen?
- 1tbsp honey (the natural cleanser exfoliates and detoxes the skin)
- 1½ tbsp milk (will nourish and hydrate the skin)
- 2 drops tea tree essential oil (will eliminate bacteria and work as an astringent)
In a microwave-safe bowl, mix honey and milk and warm it up for 10 seconds. You can alternately do the needful on a stove in a pan; the mix should be warm, not hot. Add the tea tree essential oil and mix well. Use a cotton ball to apply the solution to the blackheads, and let it rest for 15 minutes. Once dry and stiff, peel it off like you would a pore strip.
