Here’s How Kim Woodburn’s DIY Bug Catcher Works:
In the video above, Woodburn breaks down how to trap bugs with things you probably already have lying around the house. Watch the video to see how she sets her trap, or follow the instructions below.
You’ll need:
- A deep Mason jar with a detachable lid
- A banana or some raisins
- Vaseline
How to make your own:
- Sprinkle a handful or raisins or break up the banana into small pieces and drop into the bottom of the jar. (If you’re using the banana, making sure to smush some bits so it coats the sides.)
- Line the entire rim and upper inside of the jar with a very thick coating of Vaseline.
- Place it, open, on the floor where bugs can find it.
How it works:
When the bugs smell the fruit, they’ll climb into the jar to chow down, but the Vaseline makes the jar too slippery for them to escape. Got ‘em! Once the bugs are having their buffet inside, put the airtight lid on and toss the whole jar into a trash can outside of your home.
