If you’ve taken a trip to your nearest department store and took a stroll down the skincare aisle, you probably have seen products formulated with an ingredient called hyaluronic acid (HA). Despite its name sounding like something that can burn the skin, this compound actually does some great things for it.

Hyaluronic acid has become a trending ingredient in a handful of skin care products. It is often recommended by dermatologists and physicians because of its ability to improve the texture of the skin while reducing signs of aging.

Hyaluronic acid has been made into almost every skincare product including lotions, serums and creams. Despite it sounding like an ingredient that was created in a lab, our bodies actually produce this substance itself.

What Does Hyaluronic Acid Do for the Skin?

Hyaluronic acid is a moisturizing agent that is a form of sugar and serves as a building block for a variety of bodily functions. It’s used to help build the fluid between the joints, makes soft tissue more resilient, exists in the tendons and muscles and also possesses anti-inflammatory capabilities.

This ingredient can do wonders for the skin, reason being is because it is an extremely effective moisturizer that reduces fine lines while promoting a youthful glow, mainly because HA can hold almost 100 times its weight in the amount of moisture and if used on a consistent basis, the benefits are seen within just a few weeks.

But while HA offers many benefits and is available in a variety of skincare products on the market, it still doesn’t change the fact that some of these skincare products contain synthetic fragrances and dyes, outweighing the benefits of the HA content.

So, instead of playing the guessing game to determine which products you should purchase at the store with the least amount of harmful ingredients, why not make your own with all natural ingredients that you know won’t damage your skin?
