It could be her sun-kissed skin, luscious brown locks, or that perfectly toned body; whatever the reason, Shay Mitchell has everyone hooked. The 27-year-old plays the role of Emily Fields on the hit soap Pretty Little Liars, and surely you’d imagine it takes a lot to play a teenager, in terms of just nailing the right built and sustaining that youthful glow.

If you follow Mitchell on Instagram, you’ll be able to spot scenic landscapes, chocolates, pizza and a whole lot of fatty foods. Surprisingly, Shay confesses that she’s not particularly a healthy eater. “I have a big sweet tooth. A lot of my fans know that I love candy.” However, on the show, Mitchell’s character is part of the school’s swim team. And rightly so. Have you seen how incredible she looks in a bikini?

The actress believes that striking a balance is what works for her. “I’m not completely healthy 100 percent of the time, but I think you should have a little fun and just hit the gym the next day! I love fitness. I put my headphones in and get a good workout going. At home, I’ll start off with 15 minutes of cardio on the treadmill or skipping rope, followed by lifting weights and interval training. Or, I’ll go for a hike or take a boxing or spinning class. The goal is to switch it up as much as possible so that I don’t get bored. I have a few different trainers—one for Pilates (Cynthia Czarnecki is my girl), two boxing coaches (one in LA and one for whenever I’m in NYC), and Gunnar Peterson is my go-to strength trainer.

Well, clearly that candy has no choice but to turn into a puddle of sweat after that workout! With a cup of green tea now and again, Shay’s method of working out in order to eat whatever she wants reminds us of Fergie, who follows the exact same mantra.

Shay’s Beauty Loot
“First and foremost, I wash my face with whatever cleanser is in my vanity at the moment (I have a mini drugstore in my bathroom!). It’s so important. A lot of people say to cleanse at night, but you have to do it in the morning. I’m also a moisture queen,” says Mitchell. Needless to say, moisturizing is key, as it hydrates your skin and prevents the appearance of fine lines and aging signs, so we suggest you make your own solution to suit your skin type.

Shay also nails the routine by understanding the importance of sun protection. “A lot of people forget [it] is important to have [SPF] in your lip products.”

Also, much like all the other A-listers, Shay relies on some oiling solutions to keep her skin and hair glowing. “My all-time favorite product right now is coconut oil. I use it for everything (even as lotion!), and apply it as a hair mask once a week. I like piling the coconut oil on while my hair is dry, then keep a shower cap on my head to give my strands a chance to absorb the oil.”

This is pretty much a pre-cursor to your standard deep conditioning routine, and works as a great detox for your tresses. If you too, want to indulge in a session at home, here’s a step-by-step that will see you through it.
