We all know somebody who raves about taking a shot of apple cider vinegar (ACV) every morning. While starting your morning with ACV brings tremendous health benefits, you also might want to consider adding it to your pre-workout regimen.

When you just need that push to keep your muscles active and fight fatigue, ACV will change your life and how you perform at the gym.

Apple Cider Vinegar Before Your Workout

If you’ve been experiencing muscle pain and fatigue, simple willing for it to go away is not going to resolve your issue.

If you’re really trying to take your fitness to new levels, a little bit of ACV could go a long way in helping your muscles fire up at the gym.

1. Prevent Muscle Cramps

Muscle cramps can occur right when you’re in the midst of your set and are often extremely annoying to have to deal with.

Commonly known to be caused by exhaustion, muscle cramps can also be caused by calcium, potassium and magnesium deficiencies, lactose intolerance and other factors such as alcohol consumption. Here’s when ACV can step in.

A shot of ACV before you workout can help replenish your muscles with essential nutrients and electrolytes that will prevent muscle cramps and allow you to have an effective workout.

2. Balance pH Levels

Maintaining the right balance of acidity and alkalinity or pH levels in the blood is extremely important for your health. While apples are known to reduce acid levels in our bodies, fermented apples — the base of ACV — can help balance our pH levels as a whole.

With the right pH levels, you can enhance your stamina, combat pain and reduce excess acid from the muscles, thus maximizing your performance when you exercise and promote healthy functioning of your system.

Additionally, maintaining the right balance of pH levels in your blood also helps to oxygenate the body during times of stress and tension.

3. Get an Energy Boost

In order to get a good workout in, it is important to feel energized and prepared to give it your all. While most of us might work out after a busy day of work, it might be a good idea to have a dose of ACV before heading to the gym.

The malic acid in ACV gives your body an energy boost by breaking down fat calories and detoxing your body from toxins that leave you feeling tired and weak.

Another plus is that some research has found that consuming ACV before your workout can aid in weight loss due to its metabolic boosting effects that it has on the body.

4. Detox as You Work Out

We’re always looking for a good detox to cleanse our systems from harmful toxins. ACV contains good bacteria that is helpful in cleansing the gut and also contains essential vitamins, minerals and enzymes that boost overall health.

By getting into the habit of having a little ACV before your workout, you can remove toxins from the body, and therefore, improve and enhance your stamina as you work out.

5. Improve Immune Function

Your workout routine can be affected if you are sick. The best way to prevent getting sick or catching a cold (especially as flu season comes knocking) is to incorporate a little ACV into your diet.

If you are feeling a little low, taking it before you work out can help clear your sinuses and give you all the essential vitamins and minerals you need to cleanse and improve your system.

ACV will also help to energize you and prepare you for a low-impact workout when you already have symptoms of a cold.

ACV Safety Tips

Always dilute ACV with water or something else before drinking it. Avoid consuming as is. If you do consume ACV first thing in the morning and on an empty stomach, feelings of nausea or stomach issues may be expected.

Make sure to consult your doctor, especially if you have diet restrictions in order to get the green light in adding ACV into your diet.
