Jake Gyllenhaal beefed up for Southpaw, Bradley Cooper for American Sniper and Tom Cruise for Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation. But, what sets Hugh Jackman apart is that he bulks up just to be healthy. This passion is what stirred up the creation of Dog Pound, a group of men who meet in the wee hours of the morning to pump some seriously heavy weight iron.
A tribute to Jackman’s bulldog Dali, who FYI attends every session, the group began with 14 people busting their butts at 5.45am every morning at the West Village gym. Recently, Hugh propelled to the 1000lb club, as he posted a workout session that involved 355 squats, 235 bench and 410 deadlifts at the Dog Pound; all this, just between 8am and 11am.
The X-Men star fought skin cancer for the third time around last October, as he relied on a healthy diet and stringent workout routine to boost his immunity and fight the carcinoma cells. Dog Pound is Hugh Jackman’s escape and aims to ‘help people break through limits & reach goals that are beyond what they originally thought they could do.’ It comprises 40 exercises that include ‘weightlifting, yoga, barre, cross fit, core strength training, and cardio.’ The circuit also mixes boxing and sledgehammer training into the routine.
If you are ready to push it to the limit, Dog Pound welcomes you to the brotherhood.
