Now, just because something is new and is considered the “next best thing ever!”, doesn’t mean that it is the most effective fitness routine out there; or, that it is ideal for your specific body composition. After all, the next best thing only lasts till, well, the next best thing.
If you’re a fitness fanatic, there’s a high possibility that you’re on the lookout for the next fitness fad that gives you results; and even if you’re not, being innovative with your workout routine is the key to progressing consistently, so that your body is not stuck in a limbo. Either way, we suggest you pay attention!
Are You Battle-Ready?
Make note that training with battle ropes is gaining traction all across gyms and workout studios in America, and considering it’s endorsed by celebrity trainer Gunnar Peterson and his A-list clientele like Kendall Jenner, Kim Kardashian, Ciara and Olivia Wilde, we’re not surprised.
“It’s great core training. The abs, back, and glutes (muscles of the buttocks) are all engaged,” said Donna Cyrus, senior vice president of programming at Crunch fitness center. “Obviously there’s toning to the upper body and it burns a lot of calories.”
The workout involves slamming, dragging, and creating waves with ropes that are centrally anchored a few feet away to a support bar. The more the distance, the harder it is to create motion.
The battle ropes can vary in diameter and weight, so you can always level up. Alternately raise each arm to shoulder level to create ripples, and build momentum and distance yourself to really feel the burn.
The ropes require you to engage your upper body, particularly your arms, pecs, shoulders and back, so posture and core stability is of utmost importance. Needless to say, if you have injuries, muscle stress or spasms in these areas, you’re not ready for battle.
“It’s a little like running with the upper body,” said Jonathan Ross, spokesperson for the American Council on Exercise. “It’s not just using different muscles, but training muscles in different ways.”
That said, alternate forms of fitness like sledgehammer training, rucking and bootcamp training too, have been recently gaining momentum in the fitness industry. Needless to say, there are more than enough options for everyone, so choose wisely by consulting your trainer to understand what your body needs. With that in mind, why not take a look at the battle ropes in action, to see if they pique your interest.
