It happens to all of us. One month we’ve been doing so well with our workouts and getting where we want to be with our fitness and then suddenly, everything seems to come to a standstill and we feel like we’re in the same ongoing rut.

Whether it’s low motivation or simply just boredom, something needs to change to help you get out of the same routine and get you inspired to get back to it sooner rather than later.

Thankfully, social media has given us the ability to gain inspiration and tips on how to spruce up a routine and give us a much-needed change to keep us motivated.

Tips on How to Get Out of a Workout Rut

Fitness bloggers and influencers seem to have gone through this exact same thing and have come together to give us helpful tips on how to get out and stay out of this workout rut.

April Sutton: Get a workout buddy

Having a go-to workout buddy will give you the motivation boost you need when you’re just not feeling like heading to the gym.

When you have a partner to work out with, you can learn from each other and teach each other new ways to exercise. Sutton says this gives you a “reset button” and can be a refreshing way to keep you going.

Mohamed Elzomor: Plan for two minutes of exercise

Elzomor will always plan ahead when working out starts to become a “low priority.” This is a way to trick your mind, which will actually help you keep the plan you made for yourself. Another tip is to find just two minutes in your day to exercise.

Setting aside this time every day to get your workout in will slowly become a habit and will help you stay with it for the long term. These two minutes will end up boosting your energy and motivation during the day.

Anna Kaiser: Turn up the music

Get the beats pumping and turn up the music to get you excited for your workout. Kaiser loves to put on her workout gear and blast her favorite tunes of the moment.

Not only does the music keep her energized, but the flattering gear also adds to her motivation as she works out.

Sophie Allen: Dress up in your best workout attire

Just like how dressing up makes you feel good, putting on your best workout attire will have the same effects on you as you exercise.

Allen says to try to put on your cutest workout gear and see how your attitude toward working out changes. The wardrobe change will actually make you want to hit the gym and get your muscles working.

Sia Cooper: Head outside

Sometimes, you just know that you’re not going to go to the gym. Not because you’re lazy but because you just don’t want to. Instead of skipping your workout, take Cooper’s advice and head outdoors!

Working out in the fresh air and sunlight gives you an energy boost and elevates your mood to make you have a more positive and optimistic attitude that extends even outside of your workout.

Michelle Pernetta: Try something new

Doing the same thing over and over again can be boring and makes you lose interest in the activity over time. When this is the issue you’re dealing with, head to a new workout class that you normally wouldn’t sign up for.

Pernetta says that trying something different will challenge you in new ways and get you working on areas that you normally don’t work out.

No More Workout Rut

There’s a reason why these bloggers and influencers have so many followers. Try their tips and get yourself out of the same old routine you’ve been stuck in.

Working out can be a lot of fun if you don’t allow it to become a chore that you’re obligated to do. Challenge yourself in different ways to fall in love with exercising all over again!
