Travel Fitness Tips from Travel Experts

Take it from the experts themselves. The following tips are here to help you maintain your fitness when you’re away from your regular routine.

Tip No. 1: Stretch from your seat

Keep your fitness game strong starting from when you take your seat in the airplane. Long-haul flights tend to get very sedentary and sitting for hours at a time isn’t the best for your muscles.

Don’t worry about what other passengers might think. Get up and get walking around and even incorporate a few stretching exercises to increase blood circulation and keep your muscles engaged on your flight.

Tip No. 2: Walk outside more

Avoid hailing taxis or calling an Uber when you’re abroad. Take this opportunity to go for a little walk instead and discover all that there is out there in your neighborhood or around the city.

If you’re staying in one area for most of your visit, opt to take a new route every day, not only will this keep your walks exciting, but you will also be able to explore a new terrain that might up the challenge of your walk.

Tip No. 3: Stay hydrated with water

Sometimes that hunger you are feeling is actually your body giving you a signal that it’s thirsty. Always carry a bottle of water with you to stay hydrated and avoid snacking on unnecessary junk food all day.

The key here is to drink water to stay hydrated and not other sugary drinks. As long as you keep sipping on water, you’re making sure you stay in shape on your vacation.

Tip No. 4: Take the stairs

Taking the stairs should always be your go-to route when you’re abroad. Not only will you get a good workout for your glutes, but it’s much healthier than taking the elevator and you can burn off a few extra calories while sightseeing.

While most people might shy away from taking the stairs, if you’re trying to stay fit and keep your stamina up, the stairs are going to be your friend while you’re abroad.

Tip No. 5: Make new workout friends

Find someone from the local area to be your new workout buddy. Not only will this new friend motivate you to squeeze in a tiny workout when you have the chance, but you might also be able to learn about a new culture from your new friend.

Better yet, if you and your buddy really hit it off, he or she can take you around the town and show you places that only locals might know of, making this a win-win situation all around.
