If you’re wondering what’s the deal with the FitTea sightings on every other celebrity’s Instagram posts, well, we’d like to know too. It seems that tea-toxing is the new ‘It’ thing to lose weight and burn fat, and the humble tea has been replaced by FitTea, which has A-list names like Ashley Benson, Bella Thorne, Keegan Allen, Kylie Jenner, and Sarah Hyland sipping it up by the cups.

This ‘magic’ potion is a loose leaf tea, which contains a blend of organic green tea, Oolong Wu Yi, organic rooibos, ginger, pomegranate, guarana, birch, stevia, corn and honey powder, and is said to work miracles by promoting fat burn, boosting the immune system, aiding and soothing digestion, and facilitating weight loss.

The reality, however, is somewhat different. Now, the ingredients used in this concoction do have some positive effects. For example, ginger acts as an appetite suppressant, which could aid weight loss; birch is a diuretic, and so could help reduce bloating. Guarana contains caffeine, as do green tea and oolong tea, and everyone knows that caffeine acts as a stimulant and diuretic. Stevia will improve the taste of the tea, while pomegranate may provide the drinker with antioxidants.

However, these effects are only temporary, and there are some severe side-effects. For example, dehydration. Now, while dehydration may help muscles appear more defined, it can lead to one’s metabolism slowing down, which negates any weight loss endeavors. Research indicates other incidentals such as heartburn, diarrhea and just overall discomfort in the stomach, which is the worst way to lose weight.

Also, let’s not forget that celebrities have their highly-paid trainers to help them stay in shape, and aren’t solely relying on FitTea for their weight loss fix. We recommend sticking to a healthy diet and a fun fitness plan, and trust us, you’ll have no use for such frivolities and quick-fixes.

Remember, it’s just a cup  of tea, you’re welcome to join the party, but there’s really no reason to drink more than you can handle.
