We often turn to yoga for relaxing and reducing stress. While various yoga poses help you to focus on yourself to get back on track, specific postures can also work to heal certain ailments that have been causing you tension.
An effective pose to help with digestion and burn fat is the Standing Wheel pose, which gives the body a good stretch and refreshes the mind in just a few minutes.
Standing Wheel Pose (Standing Chakrasana)
Standing wheel pose or standing Chakrasana is an excellent pose to stretch your spine and the surrounding muscles. The way you bend and twist your body massages and stimulates the abdominal organs, improving their function.
Standing Wheel Pose Directions:
The following directions will help you practice the standing wheel pose with comfort and ease.
- Start by standing tall with your back straight and your legs about two feet apart. Bring your hands together to the front and interlock your fingers.
- When you inhale, raise your arms over your head and start to slowly bend backward as far as you can.
- Hold this position for 6 seconds.
- While exhaling, bend forward and swing your arms behind to interlock your hands at the back. Make sure to pull your arms toward your head.
- To release, inhale and slowly return to the starting position.
Standing Wheel Pose Variations:
The standing wheel pose is a variation of the traditional wheel pose that involves a deeper backbend with your feet and hands touching the ground.

When you engage in any new exercise or yoga pose, it is important to get the green light from your doctor especially if you are recovering from any injuries or suffer from a chronic illness.
It is best to avoid the standing wheel pose under the following conditions:
- Cardiac conditions
- High myopia
- Hernia
- Piles
- Abdominal inflammation
