Q: My mom thinks cancer may be a natural part of our aging process? Do you agree that cancer might be inevitable? And if not, what can we do to prevent it?
A: Cancer is the body’s response to no longer being able to sustain its various systems in a healthy and balanced way.  Ayurveda teaches us that our health begins with digestion, and what this means is that if we bog our bodies down with processed, difficult-to-digest food—and if we eat an excessive amount as a whole—then the body will have to spend much more energy digesting all of this food.  The more energy it uses to digest food, the less energy it will have to do everything else—like fight off Cancer.  In other words, two people could have the same exact genetic predisposition toward Cancer, but if one person gorges themselves on unnatural foods and one of them does not, then the one that doesn’t stands a far greater chance of living their life Cancer-free.
