A condition that is characterized by pain and discomfort in the chest, a person experiencing angina pectoris feels as though someone is squeezing the chest with a great pressure. The chest has a burning sensation accompanied with pain that starts behind the breastbone and radiates to the neck, throat, jaw, shoulders and back.
Angina pain is often accompanied by anxiety, nausea, excessive sweating, shortness of breath and fatigue. It often results from a blockage in the coronary arteries. The inner walls of the arteries get weak and plaque begins to build up within the arteries. The plaque, which consists of fatty substances, can make the arteries stiff and narrow which reduce the blood flow to the heart muscle, which over-exert itself, resulting in pain. High levels of cholesterol, diabetes, high blood pressure and smoking can cause angina.
Here are a few home remedies that can ease your angina pain.
Holy Basil: The antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of holy basil help lower blood sugar, LDL (bad) cholesterol, and triglycerides levels. This helps unclog arteries and prevent angina. Grind a handful of holy basil leaves to a fine paste. Pass it through a sieve to extract its juice. Add two teaspoons of honey to the juice. Mix it well and take it twice daily for relief from chest pain.
Lemon: The antioxidant hesperidin in lemons can strengthen blood vessels and prevent atherosclerosis (clogging of the arteries due to deposition of fats). Lemon inhibits the formation of bad cholesterol by scavenging free radicals. Take a glass of warm water and squeeze an entire lemon. Add two teaspoons of honey and drink this mixture every morning to relieve angina.
Flaxseed Oil: Rich in alpha-linoleic acid (a type of omega-3 fatty acid), flaxseed oil prevents the blood from clotting and oxidation of LDL (bad) cholesterol. Use flaxseed oil while cooking food to find relief from angina.
Garlic: A wonder herb, garlic has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that reduces cholesterol levels and strengthens blood vessels. Chew two to three cloves of raw garlic every night to prevent heart disease and prevent angina symptoms.
